SEATTLE -- The woman who filed a recall petition against Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist said the campaign will not have the signatures before the February 22 deadline.
In an email to KING 5, Cheryl Iseberg of Fircrest said that supporters were afraid to donate money to the cause.
"As with any campaign, recalling Mark Lindquist requires donations from the community," Iseberg wrote. "Many residents were afraid to donate, believing Lindquist would retaliate. His vindictiveness continues to come to light as the cases against him mount."
Iseberg said the campaign volunteers or paid signature gatherers did not have an issue gathering signatures out in the field. She claims they gathered about a third of the required 38,000 signatures needed by the court imposed deadline.
Iseberg filed the petition in June 2015, accusing Lindquist of being "a bully," intimidating and retaliating against his own staff.
Lindquist said the real reason the recall failed, was from lack of support.
"They failed to raise money and they failed to gather signatures because they don't have any popular support," he said. "They failed because the overwhelming majority of the community backs our office."
