Paramount Theater celebrates 90 years in Seattle with free shows and flair

Seattle's Paramount Theater is celebrating its 90th birthday with several free shows and a nostalgic walk down memory lane.

Seattle's Paramount Theater is having a year-long birthday bash. That's how you celebrate a milestone 90th year — and the 89 years before it.

The Paramount was built in 1928 and spared from a wrecking ball in the late 1980s and early 90s. The venerable "movie palace," as Seattle Theater Group Executive Director Josh LaBelle calls it, has since become a preeminent location for all types of shows.

In honor of the big 9-0, STG has offered several free shows, including one in August. The Paramount just hosted a free show with Seattle darlings Death Cab for Cutie, and another free show is scheduled with "México en el Corazón" on August 24th.

To celebrate the Paramount and its countless patrons, STG is offering a free download of The People's Theatre!, an e-book containing the rich history of the Paramount. Hard copies will be available later this year.
