PUYALLUP, Wash. — Crews with Central Pierce Fire & Rescue continue to put out hot spots following a large fire at a recycling plant in the 5300 block of Canyon Road Friday afternoon.
The fire was reported to be under control around 3:20 p.m.
For a period of time, people were being asked to avoid the area due to toxic smoke in the area. Those living or working nearby were asked to close windows and turn off air conditioning units if they pull in outside air. However, a spokesperson said most of the smoke has dissipated due to wind and the fire being out, so residents likely do not need to take precautions anymore.
There are no known injuries at this time.
The cause of the fire is unknown.
