Seattle makes up 75% of country's hottest neighborhoods

The real estate game is sizzling in Western Washington.

The real estate website Redfin put out the list of the top 25 most competitive markets in 2017, and Seattle metro neighborhoods made up ¾ of the list.

19 of the 25 are from the Seattle metro area. The report considered statistics like how much prices grew last year, how quickly homes sold, and what percentage of sales went above list price, among others.

Eight on the list were on the Eastside, including Redmond's Grass Lawn neighborhood, which was number one.

11 of the others are in Seattle city limits, including Pinehurst in North Seattle, which ranked second.

Gary Fish and his wife are on the search in Pinehurst. He said it's been a frustrating process.

“Very competitive,” he said at a Sunday open house. “You go into a house and there are at least 10 other couples.”

70 people visited the five-bedroom on 12th Ave NE this weekend. Listing agent Steve Baik of Caliber Real Estate said that's busy for the typically slow month of January.

“I didn't realize Pinehurst would be two in the nation,” said a pleasantly surprised Baik. He said he believes making the list means the neighborhood is one of the city's next hot spots.

“You've got the light rail station coming in just a few miles down south,” he said. “It's right in that area where you'll see some growth going on eventually.”
