One of the benefits of Seattle's bike-sharing services is they're dockless, allowing users to leave the bikes anywhere once they've finished riding them. But it's also one of the drawbacks, as bikes pretty much end up anywhere and everywhere.
To solve the problem, Seattle's Department of Transportation is experimenting with bike share bike parking areas. They've selected five "sidewalk furniture zone" locations in the Ballard neighborhood and are encouraging users to park their bike share bikes there.
5 bike share parking locations in Ballard:
- North side of Market just west of Ballard Ave (in front of Shakti Yoga).
- NE corner of Leary and Market (Ballard Beer Company).
- SE corner of Leary and Market (AT&T store).
- SW corner of Tallman and Market (All the Best Pet Care).
- North side of Market just W of Russel (Kangaroo and Kiwi).
The five designated parking locations have temporary markings; SDOT will determine how effective they are in organizing the brightly colored bikes.
