Leroy's, a beloved Seattle men's clothing store on Pike Street is closing.
"I mean this store has been around as long as I've been around. It's my Dad's whole life," said Dion Shumate, Leroy's son.
"I mean it has always been loud and crazy, bright suits, bright colors. I mean but more than that it's my dad. His personality and knowing everyone downtown and you know he could sell anything."
"Oh, he's always been stylish. it's just Leroy and anyone that knows him that's what he's been all about. Dress. Looking good all the time," said Kathy Jude, a longtime customer, "The bling, the shoes the colors, just style. I can't explain it any other way."
"I'm old enough to know about the 70s so he takes us there and he keeps us there and it looks good. Black folks have always dressed up. It's just a part of what we do and he kept the flavor. He never blended in with all these other shops."
"He spent basically his whole time here," said Dion, "He knew everybody downtown. He knew everybody everywhere we went."
"I guess this is one of the reasons why it so heartbreaking to me he's always been a great kind and generous guy to me always consistently over the year. I can't even say it's bittersweet and it's almost just bitter that he's now closing," said Johnny Murray, a longtime customer.
"My dad's been sick with cancer for about a year and a half and it got worse to the point that he can't make it down here anymore," said Dion, "I mean I know it breaks his heart to close the store. We've been trying to convince him to close it for like a year. If it was up to him he'd die here."
"It will be hard to walk down this street and not see this store," said Dion.
