March For Our Lives protests will be happening nationwide this Saturday. In Seattle, the effort is being organized by high school seniors Emilia Allard and Rhiannon Rasaretnam.

"While I am here and I am doing this, I shouldn't have to be,” said Allard.

Students are pushing for legislation and reform to protect them from gun violence and mass shootings in schools.

"It's really heartbreaking to hear these young students being afraid to go to school in the morning when their primary goal should be education and having fun," said Rasaretnam.

While the students are the driving force, they say they couldn’t do it without the help of adults. They met with the Seattle Police Department Tuesday.

"We discussed safety plan, protocol, all that sort of stuff," said Allard.

But they're also realizing the cost to protest.

"We need to pay for things like barricades, Porta Pottys, sound and staging, ensuring we have the safety and security for the march. A lot of the costs really add up," said Rasaretnam

The students have partnered up with local businesses like Cupcake Royale where customers can donate money to their cause. The goal is not just about raising money but about urging others to act

"We have a meeting with (Washington state Attorney General) Bob Ferguson tomorrow. I keep reminding myself it’s a good cause. We're doing good work," said Allard.
