A young child died in an apartment fire in Auburn early Wednesday morning, Valley Regional Fire said.
The fire started around 3 a.m. at Clearwater Ridge Apartments, located on the 3700 block of Auburn Way S.
The fire was confined to one unit. Crews on scene said the young child did not make it out of the fire and was found dead by firefighters.
Fire officials said they believe the fire started in the room where the child was sleeping.
The apartment complex did not have sprinklers, but investigators said sprinklers were not required at the time the complex was constructed.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
