Hillary Clinton speaks at Paramount Theatre on Monday about her new book What Happened.

Hillary Clinton was in Seattle on Monday night to promote her new book What Happened and reflect on the 2016 general election.

The 2016 presidential contender discussed the highly charged election and becoming the first female presidential nominee of a major political party.

“Part of what you have to do if you’re going to be in politics, you take criticism seriously, but not personally,” said Clinton of challenges women face in politics or the public eye.

Novelist Anne Lamott moderated the discussion at the Paramount Theatre.

The event is part of a 16-stop nationwide book tour. Clinton will sign books at Elliott Bay Book Company on Tuesday before heading to Portland, Ore. and Vancouver, British Columbia.

The crowd was filled with Clinton supporters and 2016 volunteers. One supporter who attended her fundraiser last year said Clinton's visit on Monday was "closure."

Clinton said she hoped more young women get involved in politics, and that she loves "when little girls come to my book signings and they're wearing pant suits and superwoman costumes."

“The only way we will get sexism out of politics is to get more women in politics," Clinton said to loud cheers.
