NFL announces 2019 salary cap increase projected up to $191.1 million

The NFL salary cap will increase by about 6 percent in 2019. Next season's cap will be "in the range of $187.0 million to $191.1 million."

The NFL salary cap is set for yet another significant increase for the 2019 season. The league has informed all 32 teams the projected cap amount for next year could reach up to $191.1M – a significant increase over 2018’s $177.2M.

Brian McCarthy of the league’s public relations department tweeted the news and the NFL statement on Tuesday afternoon.

"The NFL informed clubs today that the projections for the 2019 salary cap are in the range of $187.0 million to $191.1 million,” read the release. “This marks a 40% increase in just five years since the 2014 season ($133.0 million) and would be the 6th consecutive year the cap is projected to climb more than $10 million per club year over year."

“Total projected player costs, including benefits, will be more than $7.3 billion in 2019.”

The projected salary cap has yet to be finalized but will be announced before the official start of free agency next year, which begins on March 13.
