Seattle Seahawks free safety Earl Thomas did not participate in Friday’s practice for personal reasons, according to coach Pete Carroll. Carroll wouldn’t say if Thomas will play on Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys.

“He couldn’t work today,” Carroll stated at Friday’s press conference. When asked if he would play on Sunday, Carroll said: “We’ll see how he’s doing, make sure he’s okay. He’s got some other stuff going on. It’s personal, that’s why I’m not talking about it.”

Thomas was at Friday’s practice but did not participate in any drills.

The Cowboys represent a significant opponent for the Seahawks and Thomas, as they were connected in trade rumors this offseason. Fueled by Thomas going into their locker room last year and telling head coach Jason Garrett to “come get me,” many believed that the All-Pro safety would play this season in a Cowboys uniform instead of the blue and green of Seattle.

Of course, Thomas ended his holdout the week prior to Seattle’s first game, and has played excellent through the first two games.

While there will no doubt be rumors that Thomas is not playing to avoid getting injured, which would prevent him from getting traded to Dallas, it is entirely possible Thomas sat on Friday for other reasons.
