The Seattle Seahawks made some immediate changes to their coaching staff at the end of the season, naming Brian Schottenheimer the new offensive coordinator, Ken Norton Jr. the defensive coordinator and Mike Solari the team’s offensive line coach.

Rumors of other hirings and firings slowly leaked out, and the team has now announced its 2018 lineup.

Three new assistants were confirmed to the staff in the Seahawks press release on Friday: assistant defensive line coach Jethro Franklin, assistant special teams coach Larry Izzo and offensive assistant Steve Shimko.

Franklin will replace assistant defensive line coach Dwaine Board, as first reported by the Sporting News on Jan. 31. Most recently with the Raiders, Franklin was released when Oakland’s new head coach Jon Gruden named his staff. The former defensive lineman spent one season as a Seahawk.

Izzo will take over for assistant special teams coach Heath Farwell, who has taken a similar position with the Carolina Panthers. Izzo played 14 years in the NFL before his transition to coaching after retirement. After a stint with the Giants, Izzo spent the last two seasons with the Texans before he was let go.

Shimko, who spent the past two years as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Garden City Community College, has been named the Seahawks new offensive assistant. A former Rutgers quarterback, Shimko began his coaching career with his alma mater before joining Schottenheimer at the University of Georgia as an assistant quarterbacks coach.

In addition to the new members named to the staff, the Seahawks also announced three title changes: quarterbacks coach Carl Smith moves to assistant head coach, former wide receivers coach Dave Canales will now head up the quarterbacks and Nate Carroll, Seattle’s previous receivers assistant, will replace Canales.
