It is snowing hard on the mountain passes, and earlier there were several disabled vehicles and semi-trucks blocking the roadway that failed to chain up, according to Washington State Patrol Trooper Brian Moore.

Washington State Patrol will be issuing $500 tickets for vehicles that are not chaining up when they should be.

Heavy rain is expected in the lowlands Thursday with between one and three inches of precipitation. The mountains will see heavy snow at about 3,500 feet.

If using U.S. 2 as an alternate route, be aware that traction tires are advised.

State Patrol advised drivers to delay their trips until Friday if possible.
