Mail theft reports on the rise, police say

Redmond police are warning people to watch out for mail thieves.

The department's Twitter account posted a photo of a mailbox badly damaged by thieves. They recommend checking mail every day, especially with tax information going around.

The Seattle Police Dept. also posted a warning about mail theft.

Officers arrested a man suspected of stealing mail Saturday morning, according to Detective Mark Jamieson. A man was spotted in the Lakeridge neighborhood stealing mail around 9:30 a.m.

Officers located the suspect at a nearby bus stop, in possession of mail that included tax documents and checks.

Jamieson says 15 different victims in the South Seattle neighborhood were stolen from.
