Screen legend Ann-Margret comes to Seattle

The actress and singer will receive high honors from The Swedish Club NW. #k5evening

SEATTLE — Hollywood icon Ann-Margret is headed to Seattle to receive a lifetime achievement award from The Swedish Club Northwest.

"Through the years, I've come to Seattle several times. My countrymen live here," she said.

The Swedish-born actress, dancer, and singer first rose to fame as a star of 1963’s “Bye Bye Birdie,” alongside Janet Leigh, Dick Van Dyke and Bobby Rydell.

"It's such a happy memory," Ann-Margret said, "I felt very, very comfortable on the set. Everyone made me feel good."

The film was a parody of the fan mania surrounding Elvis Presley.

"Interesting that that happened," she said.

Ann-Margret would later co-star in four films with with Elvis Presley, himself.

"We had a great time. He teased me and I teased him right back," she said.

She’s rarely slowed her pace, even after a near-death 22-foot fall from a Lake Tahoe stage in 1972. She's filmed dozens of movies, while also maintaining a recording career of 12 studio albums, including last year's "Born to be Wild," a collection of classic rock.

"I do have a lot of energy," she said.

At age 83, she still occasionally enjoys a ride on her motorcycle.

"I still have this beautiful lavender Harley with white daisies strewn across the fenders," she said.

“An Evening with Ann-Margret” at The Swedish Club is sold out. Some tickets may still be available for the Sunday afternoon screening of “Bye Bye Birdie” at SIFF Cinema Egyptian, followed by a Q and A session with the artist.
