Shopping local for holiday gifts could mean millions in added revenue in Washington state

SBA: Since 2010, the total reported U.S. spending at small businesses during the annual Small Business Saturday is an estimated $201 billion.

SEATTLE — Several "big box" stores and corporate brands started sending out holiday ads and potential Black Friday shopping deals via email or on social media.

A local retailer, Made in Washington, that sells products from Washington state brands is making its annual request to consumers to consider shopping local for part or all of their holiday gift lists.

Made In Washington works with more than 150 makers across the state.

This year's Small Business Saturday, a designated day to support local businesses - is set for Nov. 30.

"Small businesses are the life blood of our communities," said Mike Mondello, president and CEO of Made in Washington (MIW). "People love to buy local."

Mondello said one of the most common gift notes people send with their purchases is this, "I'm sending you a little bit of home."

MIW is featuring a 2024 Holiday Gift Guide to recommend potential ideas for your friends and family.

Mondello stopped by the KING 5 Studios to talk about Small Business Saturday and some gift ideas.

The following locally-owned business products were discussed:
