LYNNWOOD, Wash. — Sounder the dog is back home with his family and being credited for the safe return of a stolen vehicle in Lynnwood.
"I still am in disbelief that it happened and I'm just glad to have him home," said Lianne Almughirah.
Almughirah's mother was running errands with Sounder on Thursday afternoon when, parked outside a Navy Federal Credit Union, someone jumped in the driver's seat and stole her vehicle. Sounder was still in the car.
Almughirah received a phone call from her mother at work and had a bad feeling.
"I just never imagined it would be this," she said.
She called the police and started posting photos of Sounder on social media. Then, she hit the streets to look for him.
About 22 hours later, Almughirah received good news: Her mother's Toyota was found dumped half a mile from the credit union it was stolen from. Sounder was still inside, standing his ground.
"My mom said he was in the exact same position she left him," Almughirah recalled.
Almughirah said Sounder isn't too keen on strangers, especially in his places. So, "he probably went nuts, barking and growling. And at that point, that might have been when they ditched the car because he probably could have made a lot of noise."
As of Friday night, Sounder is in good spirits and Almughirah is happy to have him home as police continue to try to figure out who stole the vehicle.
Lynnwood police confirmed a detective is investigating.
Almughirah believes multiple people may have been involved and is asking anyone with information to come forward.
