SEATTLE — There were two shootings on Interstate 5 in King County Monday afternoon that took place around rush hour. Washington State Patrol is still investigating both incidents.
Both shootings took place on Interstate 5.
A BMW was hit by gunfire near State Route 520 causing the driver to pull over near the Mercer Street exit. The man in the passenger seat suffered minor injuries from shattered glass. The driver was uninjured. After an inspection of the vehicle, it was discovered that there was a bullet hole in the steering wheel as well.
The shooting did not appear to be targeted. Troopers are searching for the driver a Black Chevy SUV who they believe to be responsible. Troopers say the Chevy has a bullet hole in the window. Anyone who witnessed the shooting is asked to contact law enforcement.
Another shooting took place just 10 minutes before on southbound I-5 in Tukwila near Interurban Avenue. Police do not have a suspect description.
Because the shootings happened only 10 minutes apart in Seattle and Tukwila, police do not believe they were committed by the same person.
There have been multiple other shootings on King County highways so far this year. Last week a car was randomly struck on State Route 18. A bullet pierced the driver's side door and another struck the car's fender.
There have been nine shootings on King County highways so far since the start of this year.
