Port Orchard family who lost home to tornado 'thankful' and 'humbled'

The Mueller family's home had its roof torn off last week - but they're still glad to be celebrating Christmas together.

A week after an EF-2 tornado struck Port Orchard, families who lost their homes gathered to celebrate Christmas.

The roof was torn off John Mueller’s home during the storm. His family lost about 90 percent of their belongings.

“Still full of memories and still full of hope,” he said. “Just not how it used to be.”

His wife, children, and pets all survived. They gathered across the street for dinner on Tuesday, and will gather with their full family to celebrate on the Wednesday.

“I’m not glad it hit my house, but I’m thankful it hit our house,” he said. “I didn’t want anyone else hurt on that one.”

He said he’s also been struck by the generosity of others. They’re currently being put up at a hotel. On Christmas morning, a group from Christian Life Center brought a stack of gifts for the family.

“We are grateful,” he said. “We’re thankful and we’re humbled. This Christmas is one we’ll never forget, ever.”
