High-tech dog houses coming to Washington help you spend more time with your best friend

DogSpot wants to help you bring your with you to the grocery store by keeping them safe and comfortable.

SEATTLE, Wash — Here's a dilemma: you may want to bring your four-legged best friend everywhere, but some places may not want you to bring your dog inside.

DogSpot wants to help. They're bringing eight high-tech dog houses to the Seattle area to make it easier to bring your pup with you on errands without having to tie them outside restaurants or keep them inside a hot car.

"It's essentially a place to go and leave your dog at a place that doesn't allow dogs," Rebecca Eyre, the director of communications at DogSpot, said.

The houses are outfitted with air conditioning to keep your dog cool during warmer weather, and heated floors to keep your dog warm when it's cold outside.

They also have a forced-air ventilation system, shatter-proof fiberglass, a medical-grade UVC light for cleaning and a camera, so you can check on your dog while you're away.

"We really did try to think of everything," Eyre said.

The DogSpot app works like a bike share app. Open the app, unlock the dog house, put your pup inside and lock it. Then your dog can wait comfortably while you go inside the grocery store, restaurant or other store that doesn't allow dogs.

This summer, DogSpot houses will be popping up in six locations outside of QFC groceries in Seattle, Redmond and Kirkland. The dog houses located outside of the grocery stores will be free to use because of the partnership. They usually cost $0.30 a minute.

They are expected to arrive in Washington by early June.

The first 50 dog owners who download the DogSpot app can enter the code "SEAPUP5" for a chance to win a $200 credit for BarkShop.com.
