Sheriff Mitzi Johanknecht told worried Burien city councilmembers she may reactivate the department's gang and drug units.
The comments came at a council meeting Monday night.
The city is on edge after the murders of two teenagers on March 28 in what detectives are calling a gang-related shooting.
"As you know, recent events have made us reflect upon at least within the organization, as to what we can do better, to make the city feel safer, to make community members feel safer," said Johanknecht during her opening address to the council.
Councilmember Krystal Marx began a short question and answer period, asking the sheriff about the possibility of bringing back the county's gang unit.
"I think that everything is open for consideration and review," responded Johanknecht. "We can work together to see how that might fit... It is something the sheriff's office is looking at."
