SEATTLE — More than 70,000 customers are without power in western Washington Saturday morning amid a wind advisory.
KING 5 has activated First Alert for this weather event, which could affect lives, property or travel in the Pacific Northwest region. During this event, the First Alert Weather Team will bring you the latest information to keep you and your family safe.
Steady rain along with gusty winds arrived Friday and linger into Saturday. Strong winds are expected through Saturday evening in some areas, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
According to the Puget Sound Energy outage map, most of their impacted customers are on on the Kitsap Peninsula, Whidbey Island and south east of Puyallup. As of 11 a.m., 59,661 are without power. More than 62,700 costumers were without power before 9:30 a.m.
Snohomish PUD's outage map shows 16,497 customers without power, as of 10:45 a.m. A majority of those without power in Snohomish County are in the Lynnwood area. More than 20,500 were without power before 9:30 a.m.
In Seattle, 820 customers are reportedly without power.
The strongest winds will be north of Everett, where there could be gusts of up to 40 miles per hour, according to the KING 5 Weather Team. The strong winds will also be felt along the coast, in the San Juan Islands, Whidbey Island and western Skagit and Whatcom counties. Wind gusts of 30 to 40 miles per hour are possible.
A Gale Warning is now in effect through 5 p.m. on Saturday. Strong winds may cause hazardous seas that could capsize or damage vessels and reduce visibility, according to the NWS.
A Wind Advisory is in effect from 1 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday for the Everett area and San Juan Islands. The NWS warns of sustained winds up to 30 mph and gusts up to 50 mph.
