SEATTLE — Drivers should prepare for delays across Puget Sound this weekend. Several construction projects are planned between Seattle and Everett, the Mariners play at home and President Joe Biden will be in town.
Here's where you should expect to run into delays if you're out and about this weekend:
SR 520 closure
State Route 520 will close across Lake Washington. The closure spans from Interstate 5 in Seattle to 92nd Avenue Northeast in Clyde Hill and lasts from 11 p.m. Friday, May 10, through 5 a.m. Monday, May 13.
The SR 520 Trail will also close over the weekend but not until 6 a.m. Saturday, May 11. This work is part of the SR 520 Montlake Project. WSDOT says the weekend closure is necessary to test signals and lighting under the Montlake lid, pave sections of the roadway, work on utilities and add a new sign bridge spanning over westbound SR 520 lanes.
Crews will also close Lake Washington between Montlake Boulevard and East Foster Island Road starting at 10 p.m., Friday, May 10 until 6 a.m., May 13. Those crews will pave, landscape, and work on a utility that crosses the boulevard.
I-90 Overnight Closure
Two lanes on Eastbound I-90 from Seattle to Mercer Island will be closed for tunnel maintenance from 10 p.m. Friday, May 10 to 6 a.m. Saturday, May 11.
WSDOT crews will work on camera and extinguisher cleaning, phone and hydrant testing and inspections.
Overnight Revive I-5 Work
WSDOT contractors will reduce northbound I-5 to one lane between mid-Boeing Field and just north of the Bailey Street ramp from 9 p.m. Saturday, May 11, until 8 a.m. Sunday, May 12.
The Swift Avenue to northbound I-5 on-ramp will be closed during this work.
Crews will install sensors that help with traffic control.
Everett Revive I-5
Northbound I-5 will be reduced to one lane from 9 p.m. Friday, May 10, to 6 a.m. Monday, May 13, from Pacific Avenue to the Snohomish River Bridge. The northbound I-5 off-ramps to Pacific Avenue and Marine View Drive and the freeway on-ramps from Everett Avenue and westbound US 2 will be closed. Signed detours will be in place.
WSDOT will reopen the northbound lane on the SR 529 Snohomish River Bridge for the weekend to help alleviate potential backups.
