SEATTLE – Seattle and U.S. soccer star Hope Solo reacted to the news that she is one of celebrities who had private nude photos hacked and stolen this month.
"It is extremely sad and unfortunate that the rights of so many women were violated by the unauthorized release of private photographs. This act goes beyond the bounds of human decency and, as such, I stand united with all the women affected and am exploring every option to protect my privacy," said Solo in a statement.
She also addressed the domestic violence allegations against her, which has drawn extra scrutiny in light of the recent NFL scandal.
Solo is charged with two misdemeanor counts of fourth-degree domestic violence assault stemming from a June 21 altercation with her sister and 17-year-old nephew at a family gathering in Kirkland. Solo has pleaded not guilty.
"In addition, while I understand that the public desires more information regarding the allegations against me, I continue to maintain my innocence against these charges. And, once all the facts come to light and the legal process is concluded, I am confident that I will be fully exonerated," said Solo.
Some have criticized U.S. soccer for not suspending Solo during the legal process.
Solo plays for the Seattle Reign FC of the National Women's Soccer League and is a former Washington Husky.
