Driver critically injured after wrong-way, head-on crash in Tukwila

All lanes of northbound SR 599 were blocked for several hours after a serious crash in Tukwila.

TUKWILA, Wash. — A driver was critically injured after driving into the wrong lanes on state Route 599 and striking another car head-on Monday morning.

The incident happened just north of Interurban Avenue in Tukwila about 3 a.m.

A car traveling southbound on SR 599 crossed into the northbound lanes, hitting another car, according to Washington State Patrol Trooper Rick Johnson.

The causing driver was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle in critical condition. The other driver was also transported, Johnson said.

All lanes of northbound SR 599 and the Interurban Avenue on-ramp were fully blocked for several hours while police investigated. The lanes opened just before 8 a.m.
