Hello! I'm Bridget Chavez and I am thrilled to be reporting for the Home Team at KING 5. I've lived all over the United States and briefly lived in Sydney, Australia during college. I grew up in New Mexico and moved to the Pacific Northwest in June of 2020.

My undergraduate degrees are from the University of New Mexico where I majored in journalism and political science. After graduating in 2014, I joined Teach for America and moved to the Bay Area where I taught children with special needs for two years in East San Jose. During that time, I also earned a master's degree in special education from Loyola Marymount University. As impactful as that experience was, my true passion has always been storytelling. I packed up my bags and moved across the country to attend Syracuse University where I earned a master's degree in Broadcast & Digital Journalism with a sports emphasis.

My first on air experience was working in Washington, D.C. as a stringer from KARK and KNWA and KOLR in Arkansas and Missouri. After that, I moved to Reno, Nevada and reported at KOLO 8 for just over two years. June of 2020 was when I made my move to the PNW and haven't looked back since! I spent two years reporting at KPTV in Portland and fell in love with this region. In 2022, I moved to Seattle and spent two years reporting at KIRO 7. Two years later, I am so excited to be reporting for KING 5 News. I've been nominated for five regional Emmy awards and have won two of them.

In my spare time, I enjoy running, rock climbing, mountaineering, hiking, snowboarding, backcountry skiing, reading and spending time with family and friends. I have summited four out of Washington's five volcanoes, which includes Mt. Rainier, Mt. Baker, Mt. St. Helens, and Mt. Adams. I've climbed Glacier Peak and will summit next season! I have two pets who I call my house cows. A black and white cat named Cat and a three-year-old Dalmation named Truckee.

Got any story ideas or hiking and climbing recs? Send them my way!
