Former KING 5 anchor Michelle Li, Very Asian Foundation host Bellevue community event

The Very Asian community is honoring its 2024 Creators Grant recipients, and Jonathan Sposato, founder of JoySauce.

BELLEVUE, Wash. — It was more than two years ago when former KING 5 anchor Michelle Li received a "racist" voicemail at her current TV station KSDK in St. Louis.

Li's post of the voicemail recording went viral.

The incident could have become a solely negative experience, but Li and her supporters transformed it into a movement.

Since then, Li has helped launch the Very Asian Foundation to celebrate being "very Asian" and help more people feel seen and represented in many spaces including schools and libraries.

On Sunday, supporters of the Very Asian community will recognize the 2024 Creators Grant recipients and honor Jonathan Sposato, the founder of JoySauce.
