As technology continues to change and evolve, the way consumers get a hold of music, books, and movies does too. That's the part of the reason that National Geographic decided to release Leonardo DiCaprio's documentary Before the Flood on YouTube. The film focuses on Leo's journey to understand climate change and what can be done.
Another reason for the free release is that National Geographic has committed itself to inform the public on climate change. The CEO for National Geographic Global Networks, Courteney Monroe, said in a statement that there isn't a more important issue facing our planet than that of climate change.
"At National Geographic, we believe in the power of storytelling to change the world and this unprecedented release across digital and streaming platforms is not only a first for our network but also in our industry," Monroe said.
The documentary will not only be free on just YouTube. Facebook, Twitter, Playstation, Apple, and Hulu are just some of the platforms that will carry the film for free until November 6. The cherry on the top of this free film is that fans will also get a sneak peek at Ron Howard's MARS. The series will tell the story of our ever-continuing journey to colonize Mars. That premieres on Monday, November 14.
"There is no greater threat to the future of our society than climate change and it must be a top issue for voters this election season," said DiCaprio.
The film was directed by well-known actor Fisher Stevens and it focuses on the drastic changes the world's population must take to prevent any further harm to our planet. In the film, DiCaprio visits with President Barack Obama, President Bill Clinton, and Pope Francis to discuss climate change.
