SEATTLE — Sully's Snowgoose Saloon was one of the first taverns to open in Seattle after prohibition. It's got the kind of warmth that comes with age.
Tim 'Sully' Sullivan is the steward and owner of this neighborhood place, he bought the 1924-built building that houses the tavern in the '70s, and the business after that.
Think "Cheers," but smaller, and in a quasi Swiss chalet.
"It's fun, there's camraderie, I've made a lot of good friends," Sully said.
Sully's is the kind of place where regulars strum guitars, the fireplace always glows and even the dogs get cozy. And they also get snacks from patrons on the patio. And sometimes Sully himself.
"We usually feed them, if they're well behaved, we like them to be well behaved," he said.
Casper, a canine regular, shows up at this treat stop regularly, and waits for Sully to come out and deliver a snack. Casper's human sums it up: "This is the best place on Phinney Ridge!"
The stuffed snow goose on the ceiling is real, the extensive beer list is tasty, and this year this neighborhood landmark will celebrate 100 years - a majority of them spent being the coziest drinking establishment in Seattle.
Sully's Snowgoose Saloon is located at 6119 Phinney Ave N, Seattle, WA 98103.
