Four Seattle restaurants you can access from the water

Summertime is the season for boating, and these eateries have nearby docks for tying off and filling up! #k5evening

SEATTLE — The only thing better than being on a boat is using that boat to grab a bite to eat!

Here are four spots in Seattle with docks and/or beaches where you can arrive by boat, kayak or paddle board:

1. Westward

The waterfront restaurant on Lake Union features a seafood-forward menu with everything from fresh-shucked oysters to halibut ceviche. The menu is also dynamic, depending on what’s in season and new to market - it can change a couple of times a week.

"The food is delicious, first of all. And then the views come kind of right below the food,” said Executive Chef Bobby Palmquist. “I mean, you can see out here right now, it is so beautiful. The most beautiful summer day. It's just an all-around super fun vibe."

Reservations are recommended for indoor seating and the outdoor dining area is first come, first served.

"Summertime in Seattle, being right on the lake, with good food and good drinks - what else would you want? This is perfect,” Palmquist said.

Westward is located at 2501 N. Northlake Way and is open for dinner daily. They also serve lunch on Fridays and brunch on the weekend.

2. Bowriders Grill

For an even more laid-back experience, Bowriders Grill features lake views and a come-as-you-are atmosphere, with open-air dining on a covered patio.

"It's totally casual, no reservations needed or accepted,” laughed Matthew Lasof, executive chef and owner.

It's been a favorite stop for boaters since opening in 2021. Parking is allowed on the nearby dock after 7 p.m. and the menu includes salads, grilled skewers, wraps and sandwiches. There’s also a selection of beer and wine (with boat-friendly decanters.)

"It's like vacationland every day. Except we work hard!” Lasof said.

Bowriders is located at 101 NE Northlake Way and is open Wednesday – Sunday.

3. Gasworks Brewing

For a cold beer on a warm day, check out this brand new spot on Lake Union’s shore. There are seven beers on-tap, brewed on-site – including hoppy hazy and West Coast IPAs, lagers, and gluten-free sour beer. Pair a drink with a scratch-made meal.

"We have a full food menu," said co-owner Kyle Hansen. "Chicken sandwich, watermelon arugula salad, fries - all the good stuff."

Hansen said some of their best customers come by way of kayaks and paddle boards - putting in the exercise before indulging in what Gasworks offers.

"Location, beer, food - and have a good time!” Hansen said.

Gasworks Brewing is located at 2441 N. Northlake Way and is open daily from noon – 10 p.m.

4. Little Chinooks

Across the lake and under the bridges, you’ll find one of Seattle’s best spots for fish and chips at Fishermen's Terminal on Salmon Bay. The waterfront fish bar is part of the Anthony’s restaurant group and features quality fresh catch products.

"Being in the middle of summer right now, we have fresh Alaskan halibut, fresh salmon - those would be my favorite and my recommendations,” said Chef David Tangkilisan.

Little Chinook's also has a "best of season" program featuring fresh wild berries and peaches in beverages and desserts, while supplies last. Get the order for takeout, or enjoy on a covered patio overlooking the marina where boats from “Deadliest Catch” are moored.

"The fishermen keep us honest here. So the fishermen know the fish, knows everything they're talking about, so they keep us honest,” Tangkilisan said.

Little Chinook’s is located at 3919 18th Ave West and is open daily from noon – 6 p.m.
