The small restaurant that will take your taste buds to different countries

Garzón is bringing Latin American street food to the heart of downtown Seattle. #k5evening

SEATTLE — Chef José Garzón is using his passion for food to create a menu full of flavors from some of his favorite dishes from Latin America at Garzón Latinx Street Food

Garzón was born in Ecuador where street food has always been a part of his life, it was a way to connect with his family in a joyful way.

“Food for me [it] started at home. In Latin America, people show that they love you through food,” said Garzón. “That's their love, language is what it is."

After touring the world as a musician, Garzón decided he needed a change of career in his 30s - his next passion was food.

"I've been playing guitar since I was a teenager. I decided that I wanted to change careers in my early thirties and keep coming back to food," Garzón said.

After graduating from the Culinary Arts program at Edmonds College, Garzón set about creating a menu that reflected the street food from the countries he visited in South America.

"It's something that really is ingrained in me," he said.

Garzón partnered up with Stefanie Hieber to create Garzón Latinx Street Food.

“We didn't have any money. We didn't have a business plan. We kind of just had a dream," he said.

The idea was to bring their food to the community via pop-ups in different locations, and people responded.

"We actually just started as dinners at my house and other people's houses. We just bring food and bring people together, and the parties are a little too big,” Garzón said.

After the success that his crew had with the pop-ups, it was time to get their own place. Inside a punk-metal bar in Belltown called “Black Cat Bar,” it was the perfect spot to open Garzón.

This concept really reflects Chef Garzón's experiences and his personal story. Music and Food.
