Seven Saint Patrick's Day adventures in the PNW that beat drinking green beer

Go green and go hard with celebrations from Seattle to the Washington coast. #k5evening

SEATTLE — 1 - The John Doyle Bishop Laying of the Green Stripe. For some pre-Saint Patrick’s Day fun, be at Jefferson Street and 4th Avenue in Seattle this Friday at 7 p.m. for a tradition the Irish Heritage Club has kept alive for more than 50 years.

The stripe marks the path for:

2 - Seattle’s official Saint Patrick’s Day Parade on Saturday, March 16 - it starts at 12:30 p.m. at Jefferson and 4th and follows that green stripe to Westlake.

3 - The Irish Festival Seattle at the Seattle Center Armory Food and Event Hall is a free celebration of Irish heritage, culture and arts. Pick up your very own bagpipes or try some Irish step dancing - there’s something for everyone! Catch it Saturday 12 to 6 p.m. and Sunday - Saint Patrick’s Day – 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Seattle Center.

4 - The Saint Patrick’s Day Dash turns 40 this year and has a new course. It'll start at 9 a.m. on Saint Patrick’s Day at the Seattle Center and yes, there will be a Guinness beer garden at the end of the course.

5 - Grab your oars and head to the Hood Canal for the Saint Paddles Day Race on March 16. Alderbrook Resort & Spa hosts this race where paddleboarders and kayakers vie for first place on an open water course. If the weather cooperates, every racer wins a view of the Olympic Mountains.

6 - In Snoqualmie, one of the Northwest's newer Irish pubs, Saints & Scholars is celebrating all week long with everything from face painting to Irish dance lessons. This place is Team Evening tested and approved!

7 - Finally if you prefer harvesting seafood to drinking green beer head to the Razor Clam and Seafood Festival in Ocean Shores starting this Friday and running through the weekend. There will be clam gun decorating contests, live music and a clam chowder taste-off.

You can even toast your catch in proper Saint Patrick’s Day style at the Galway Bay Irish Pub, the closest-to-the-coast Irish bar in the state!
