BELLEVUE, Wash. — The "2 Line" is up and running.
"This is pretty cool," said Sound Transit's public information officer, Rachelle Cunningham.
The six-and-a-half mile long East Link Extension connects Bellevue and Redmond with 8 stops along the way, allowing commuters and shoppers to leave their cars behind.
"Brand new trains, and it's a really fun ride," Cunningham said.
There's plenty of help available for newbies.
"We have Sound Transit staff at stations," Cunningham said. "That will help people sort of figure it out for the first time. We also have security at each of our stations and they're very nice."
No need to check a schedule. A new train arrives approximately every 10 minutes.
"Pretty much any time you want to catch it, there won't be one far behind," explained Cunningham.
And, in about a year, this Eastside line will hook up with Seattle.
"By the end of 2025, we hope that the 2 Line will be extended across the bridge on Lake Washington." Cunningham said.
The East Link Extension runs from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. every day of the week. Fares run between $2.25 and $2.50. Riders 18 and under travel for free.
