FIFE, Wash. — The restaurant business is notoriously tough. So, when you hear about a place that's been going strong for more than 90 years, you know it's doing something right.
That's certainly true for The Poodle Dog in Fife. Just ask any of the nearly 200,000 customers that eat there each year.
"Everybody has a Poodle Dog story," said General Manager Charles Amner. "We have a lot of guests who have been coming here a long time."
The family-owned business was started in 1933 by two childhood friends. It was originally a hamburger stand and has grown into a full service diner dishing out breakfast, lunch and dinner. There's also three banquet rooms available for rent and a bar called The Pup Room.
The menu features classic diner fare including chicken fried steak, buttermilk pancakes and eggs benedict. The most popular dish is the Landmark Breakfast. The signature platter is enough to keep you full the entire day. It's a generous portion of biscuits and gravy, hash browns, eggs, sausage, bacon and a slice of ham.
The décor serves the vintage charm you'd expect from a roadside diner. You'll also find historic pictures of the restaurant over the years lining the walls.
The Poodle Dog is open seven days a week. It's located at 1522 54th Ave E in Fife.
