TACOMA, Wash. — Arlington artist and outdoorsman Joseph Rossano wanted to create an exhibition that would highlight our threatened natural resources.

"It's about coming into a room and seeing 2,000 flashes of silver," Rossano said.

He and his team created a suspended school of salmon-shaped reflective pieces. Each "fish" is suspended from the ceiling using fishing line, which creates the illusion of a huge school swimming through the gallery. The pieces reflect colorful wall art depicting the DNA sequence of Steelhead Salmon.

"The salmon were made by the team here, myself, and then individuals that came down and blew glass with us on the floor," Rossano said.

"The Salmon School" was completed before the pandemic, and migrated to various locations around the world, including Queen Elizabeth's ballroom, before returning here to the Museum of Glass.

It's on display until September 15.
