12 sites to access hundreds of movies, shows, books and music libraries for free

Since we've been stuck at home, people across the world have been turning to streaming platforms like Netflix, Spotify and Audible for comfort and entertainment. However, subscriptions can get costly and add up, costing a family between $5 and $16 per month per platform.

Don't want to pay to watch, listen and read? No problem! These sites and apps are currently offering ways to keep yourself and your kids entertained for FREE!

1) IMDb TV - Movies and shows always free

From 5 seasons of Schitt's Creek to the holiday favorite Elf, you'll find dozens of favorite titles on their 100% free streaming platform. No catch! The content is not ad-free, but it's a small price to pay considering IMDb's awesome offer.

2) HBO Go & HBO Now - 500 hours of free movies and shows, starting April 3

Yup, that's right! You can stream some of HBO's most talked-about series in full -- including Succession, Silicon Valley, and Barry. They'll also have several movie titles available (Deadline posted HBO's completed list of free titles here). The programming will be available to stream by downloading the HBO Now or HBO GO apps or by visiting HBONow.com or HBOGo.com

3) Libby - Audiobooks and ebooks always free for library cardholders

Did you know your local library has thousands of ebooks on hand? You can easily and instantly borrow them for free on your phone or tablet! Keep in mind that although it's digital, you may still have to put popular titles on hold. 

To get started, have your Library card number handy and download the App Libby, by Overdrive. Don't have a library card? Check-in with your local library online. Many, like the Seattle Public Library can get you signed up online instantly.

4) Sling - Free live TV for 14 days, no obligation

"Quarantine with Sling." For a limited time, this streaming service is not asking for credit card information at sign-up, meaning you won't automatically get charged after your free period is up. For 14 days you'll have access to 45+ live TV channels including CNN, Bravo, E!, A&E and Cartoon Network.

5) SiriusXM - Free premium radio, now until May 15

Once you sign up at siriusxm.com/streamfree, you'll have access to over 300 channels offering ad-free music, as well as talks on comedy, news, sports, politics and more. Start listening now to make the most of their offer!

6) Amazon Prime Video - Free family titles with an Amazon account

To access free shows including Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood and Pete the Cat, you will need to sign up for an Amazon account. You do not, however, need to pay for a Prime Video subscription nor a Prime subscription for access. See all of Prime Video's free kids content now.

7) Audible Stories - Free kids audiobooks, no sign-up

Audible Stories has released hundreds of audiobooks across six different languages to keep your kids learning and dreaming. Included in the roster is Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, as read by Stephen Fry. Additionally, Harry Potter fans have another reason to get excited -- JK Rowling recently launched Harry Potter at Home, "Bringing Hogwarts to You."

8) Kanopy - Movies and shows always free for library cardholders and students

Enjoy critically-acclaimed movies, inspiring documentaries, award-winning foreign films and more ad-free -- just by signing up with your library card or student email! Kanopy is currently offering several Oscar-winning flicks including Moonlight (2016), Amy (2016), Lady Bird (2017).

9) Acorn TV - Free British shows and movies for 30 days, no obligation

If you feel like you've already seen all the American movies and shows you want to see, take a step into British entertainment! For a limited time, Acorn TV is extending its usual 7-day free-trial period to 30 days with the promo code FREE30

10) Showtime - Free movies and shows for 30 days

Like Acorn, Showtime has extended its usual 7-day free trial period to 30 days due to the virus. You'll have access to hit series like Homeland and Shameless, as well a bunch of awesome movies. 

11) Crackle - Movies and shows always free, no sign-up

They may not have the box office movies you're looking for, but some titles may surprise you! Once you head to Crackle's website, you can search their library of dozens of movies, shows, and original content.

12) Sundance Now - Free films and shows for 30 days, no obligation
