A bean bag battle brings generations together

Maple Valley's Fountain Court Senior Living faces off against Tahoma High School in an epic showdown. #k5evening

MAPLE VALLEY, Wash. — It's young versus young at heart as the team from Tahoma High School takes on the Fountain Court Flying Goats in a modified version of bean bag baseball.

"We're making up our own rules," joked Jackie Edwards, lifestyle director at the Maple Valley senior living facility.

On one side, a deep bench of veteran players with intimidating nicknames like Jelly Legs John,  Naughty Nola, and Moonshot Maggie. (She's 101!)

"I've always been physically active," said Maggie.

These seasoned athletes do not take the matchup lightly.

"These folks have been practicing for two and three hours every night for the last, like, three weeks," Edwards said, "There's something about teamwork and being a team and coming together for a common good and a common goal."

But the rookies are looking for a win.

"Just wanna play some baseball," Tahoma High player, Payton, said.

These teams really do like and even respect each other.

"She's better than I am by a lot," one of the senior players said about his teen opponent.

In the end, the Tahoma Bears eek past the Fountain Court Flying Goats by a score of 1,585 to 735. But when new friendships bridge generations everyone wins.

"Two different generations can come together and have a blast, have a great, fun time together," Edwards said, "and show their love and support for each other.
