Running Wild With Bear Grylls returned for its fourth season May 7th, 2018 on NBC.
The show pairs Grylls up with some of the world's biggest celebrities for two grueling days they will never forget.
We chatted with Grylls about the new season, his real name, and taking celebrities out of their element.
Reporter: Now, Bear I have to ask you first thing, is Bear really your first name or was that a nickname that stuck?
Grylls: No, that's what it was, that's my name.
Reporter: Really? How was that name for you growing up?
Grylls: Yeah, no I didn't use to like it as a kid I used to think, oh why can't I have a normal name? But it's just stuck over the years and there you go.
Reporter: Bear, this is the fourth season of your show on NBC. People really seem to like seeing you take celebrities out of their element.
Grylls: Yeah, we're really proud of it this show. It's run for many years now we've had some amazing people into the wild from Obama to Julia Roberts to Roger Federer on this one and a whole host of amazing people, and I'm always grateful for it. We get to travel to amazing places with such incredible sports stars and actors and get to know them in a way that's really honest and revealing, and unlike a chat show where it's always just a performance, that's why Running Wild is so great you get to sit around campfires and hear their stories as they are.
Reporter: Well the first celeb to share their story with you tonight is actor Joseph Gordon Levitt. How did you pick Kenya as his location for the shoot?
Grylls: Well we went to some really interesting places there which are the cradle of mankind. So, it's a really sort of old remote amazing place steeped in history and he's really kind of into that sort of stuff. He also wanted a really challenging one and it is that with the terrain and the conditions and the heat and the wildlife, he wanted to go into the deep end. It was a tough journey, I think out of all the ones, this was an especially tough one but he did great.
