Chris Hemsworth and Anya Taylor-Joy got down and dirty for 'Furiosa'

The stars of the new Mad Max film talked exclusively with Evening. #k5evening

LOS ANGELES — New movie “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” pushed the stars to their limits – and they loved every moment.

Anya Taylor-Joy plays the title character in the origin story film. Ripped away from her family as a child, Furiosa becomes singularly obsessed with vengeance and finding her way home.

Chris Hemsworth plays Dementus, the sadistic leader of the biker game that abducted her.

While they play enemies on-screen, the actors seemed to be in lockstep during their press tour for the film – especially when it came to wearing matching outfits, as they told entertainment reporter Kim Holcomb.

TAYLOR-JOY: "(We match) every single day.”

HOLCOMB: “Accidentally?”

TAYLOR-JOY: “Yeah, we come in every day and we go, 'Huh.'”

HOLCOMB: "Was this the most exfoliated you've been in your life? (laughter) Can you tell me something you learned about sand that the rest of us wouldn’t know?"

TAYLOR-JOY: "I love it. I love being in an environment where I'm allowed to get dirty as messy as I want to, where I'm not trying to stay pristine."

HEMSWORTH: "Anya would, before each take, literally roll around in the dirt (laughter)"

HOLCOMB: “Was it the best shower of your life every day after shooting?”

HEMSWORTH: “It doesn’t all wash off, does it?”

TAYLOR-JOY: "There's a section of the film where I'm covered in seven layers of different kinds of dirt and I remember going to get a massage on a Sunday and I remember the masseuse lifted (the blanket) back and I was like, 'No, no, no, I swear, it's clean dirt!'"

HEMSWORTH: "I went to a premiere and I had this aging makeup (on my face) that was sort of glued up and I hadn't washed it off properly and I looked at the photos and was like, 'God what's wrong with me?' And my makeup artist was like, 'I told you, you've got the scrub it!'"

HOLCOMB: "The Furiosa stare is very effective. I wish I had known it when my children were younger. (laughter) Is that innate, or can you teach it to me?”

TAYLOR-JOY: “Oh my goodness. Just bring it to a fever pitch and then keep pressing the dial."

HOLCOMB: "Was there a singular moment when you were on set and in your brain you were like, 'Holy hell, I'm in a Mad Max movie'?"

HEMSWORTH: "All the time.”

TAYLOR-JOY: “Every day."

HEMSWORTH: "As an Australian, I grew up watching these films and watching with my dad, and my dad used to race motorbikes and he knew a lot of the stunt riders from the first film, so it was sort of a very nostalgic, vivid experience. Not a day went by when I wasn't like, 'Oh wow.'"

TAYLOR-JOY: "And the sets were so incredibly created, I was just running around with my film camera between takes because it's just beautiful and I think if you're a fan of this franchise, which both Chris and I are, it's just amazing to be able to play in that sandbox."

HOLCOMB: "Both Furiosa and Dementus have totems that reminds them of their past life. What is something in your life that makes you feel like home?"

TAYLOR-JOY: "My husband and my cat."

HEMSWORTH: "Eucalyptus trees. And my wife. (laughter)"

“Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” is rated R and opens in theaters May 24th.
