SEATTLE — Gardening is the hobby of the moment thanks to everyone following stay at home orders around the country. So we asked Seattle's Ciscoe Morris what all shut in gardeners should be doing right now - he gave us three jobs for this time of year.
Ciscoe's Tip #1: Get rid of shotweed before it takes aim for you
"So the first thing you should do, and this will alleviate your boredom like nothing you've ever seen. Grab your weeding tool. Go out there and get that shotweed!
Shotweed is that little weed when you pick it up, not matter how careful you are, it shoots seeds all over!
Okay those things are in flower right now. In a couple of days they're gonna form twelve gazillion ninety two seeds on every plant and shoot em for a mile!”
Ciscoe's Tip #2: Your perennials might need a haircut too
"The other thing is get out your pruners! Go prune down any perennials, hearty fuchsias, salvias, cut ‘em down to 3 or 4 inches from the ground. One warning, if you've got a heavy handed pruner at home that's dying of boredom, don't let ‘em get ahold of these," Cicoe warned as he pulled out a gigantic pair of shears. "They'll turn your Japanese maple into balls and donuts and it will be very embarrassing for you!"
Ciscoe's Tip #3: Get rid of anything in your garden that does not bring joy, then have a recovery read
"Finally, grab that shovel and pick and get rid of those ugly plants that you can't stand how terrible they look. That juniper that's been dying for the last 10 years, get out there and dig that out! Of course, after you do a job like that you won't even be able to stand up straight or walk for the next ten days, so I recommend get my book! This will entertain you as you recover, and then, soon as you're better, get back out there and garden some more!”
