SEATTLE — @seattleWashington is using the power of social media to bring people together. With over 140-thousand followers, this account highlights the beauty of the city of Seattle and its surroundings, a love affair dedicated to the Northwest.
“One Instagram account has the power to reach such a big audience,” said Photographer Andres Tereza. “We're taking that responsibility, to create something beautiful, to be good for the community.”
They use the power of colorful images to tell a story that connects us and as we all know “A picture is worth a thousand words.”
Capturing and sharing a unique perspective - a self-discovery.
"The thing with photography is that it's completely subjective, no one can tell you if you're good or not,” said Photographer Jordan Wessels. “I found that incredibly beautiful, you're the creator.”
The concept is simple - create a platform where local photographers get to chance for their art to be seen, inspire others and cultivate a community.
“We want to become a source of inspiration for people,” said Photographer Jon Cardenas. “We started this and we keep doing this out of our hearts.”
Behind the Seattle-Washington Instagram is a group of friends, Andres, Jon and Jordan, three local photographers passionate about creating art using the city they love as an inspiration.
“I've always been a very creative person, I loved drawing and painting, until I was gifted my first camera,” said Wessels. “Once that happened, that day changed my life.”
“I started photography when I was very young,” said Cardenas. “Cities to me are so filled with passion with colors.”
“I had a big camera, then I realized we have the same technology and our little phones,” said Tereza. “For me that changed everything, you have the power in your hands.”
They are documenting images of the Northwest while creating a greater emotional impact for future generations to come.
