TACOMA, Wash. — T Town Trading Company is selling a t-shirt with the phrase "Don't Seattle My Tacoma". Overnight it's become one of the store's big sellers.
Store owner Gail Ringrose says she was looking outside her store window when she came up with the line.
“It was a feeling,” she says.“All of a sudden I felt like I really don't want us to become Seattle. I just don't want to see the small businesses go away, the love for each other, everybody knows each other, that type of a home feeling.”
Ringrose tested the line on Facebook and her posts got hundreds of shares. In recent years Proctor has seen 6-story apartment complexes pop up and traffic increase so the line has hit home for a lot of people in Tacoma.
