Evening Raves: 'American Fiction,' document scanners and Le Caviste

Evening hosts share what they are currently obsessed with from movies to apps to restaurants. #k5evening

SEATTLE —

My rave is for "American Fiction," nominated for five Academy Awards including Best Picture. This is a multi-layered film that doesn't take itself too seriously even as it satirizes hot button issues like how we all talk about race.

The movie is about a thoughtful writer, played by first-time Oscar nominee Jeffrey Wright, who knocks out a novel mocking all the clichés about life in the ghetto - only to see it received as a masterpiece by white readers. What spoke to me even more are the relationships the writer struggles with as a guy who lives too much in his head. As a friend of mine said "American Fictions" is a movie you will be unpacking for days. It's still playing in theaters.

I'm going to rave about something that everyone else probably already knows about - these document scanning apps for your phone. We've been on the road a lot lately and we are able to take all of our tax stuff with us in a big folder, you don't need a printer. In fact, it's quicker and easier than a printer and the scans look great. I use a free one called Genius Scan but there are a million out there.

I am going to rave about a restaurant in Downtown Seattle that my husband and I adore. It's a very small place called, Le Caviste, it's not new its been around for a long time. It's a little wine bar and has a small menu of French food. Everything is exceptional including the service. It is very casual, you don't have to get dressed up and it's not white table clothes exactly. The owners and servers know everything about everything, they recommend the best stuff and it's just the perfect place for a little romantic date night.
