Evening Raves: Squaxin Park, Total Wine & More and 'The Sympathizer'

Evening hosts rave about their weekly obsessions including hikes, wine tastings and TV shows. #k5evening

SEATTLE —

Jim:

A lovely hike I’ve discovered recently – Squaxin Park. It’s in Olympia, formerly Priest Point. It’s a waterside trail just minutes from the capitol campus. The well-maintained trails are long enough that you’ll feel like you’re taking a hike, but short enough that you’re unlikely to be the subject of a search and rescue. Keep an eye out for herons and other wildlife, there’s all kinds of stuff out there.

Kim:

We have so many amazing wineries in the area – this is not one of them. Total Wine and More (the big store where most people go just to buy wine), but they do these tastings that are specific to certain regions of the world. I went there with my husband and friends for a Tuscan wine tasting. You get to try like eight different wines, they teach you all about the region, there’s food and it’s $20

Saint:

My rave is for a new Max series called “The Sympathizer,” based on the Pulitzer Prize winning novel by Viet Thanh Nguyen the miniseries is full of suspense and talent. South Korea’s Park Chan-wook who directed movies “Old Boy” and “Decision to Leave” is the show’s director. The Australian actor Hoa Xuande stars as the captain. But here’s the big news – recent Oscar winner Robert Downey Jr. plays at least four different roles. Like winning the Oscar isn’t enough, he’s obviously going for the Emmy at this point.
