Food truck Lumpia World offers fusion on four wheels

Fusion is a term that can be overdone when it comes to describing food. But for Derrick and Eleanor Ellis, their food truck Lumpia World is a rolling definition of the word.

Lumpia World was selected BEST Food Truck by the voters of Western Washington in 2016's Best of Western Washington contest.

Fusion is a term that can be overdone when it comes to describing food. But for Derrick and Eleanor Ellis, their food truck Lumpia World is a rolling definition of the word.

"The fusion of the cuisine we carry is all of her cultural roots which is Filipino, Japanese, and Chamorro," said Derrick Ellis. "With my love of service and her love of cooking we merge the two together, and Lumpia World was born."

That was back in 2006. Since then Lumpia World's food has developed a cult-like following. Especially when it comes to their namesake, Lumpia.

Lumpia World's namesake specialty, Lumpia.

"Lumpia is a Filipino style pastry, roll form, it has the appearance of an egg roll," said Ellis. "We carry seven different types of flavors. It's just a lovely crispy roll with some whacky combinations that are super delicious."

Another big seller is their Chicken Katsu.

"We hand-batter everything right when you order not a second before. It's remarkably juicy and crispy."

The food is bold in flavor, but the husband and wife team behind it are as humble as they come.

The Chicken Katsu at the Lumpia World food truck is hand battered and cooked fresh on order.

"This all started it was kinda like a dream. Something to give her a platform that she could share her creative expression through food and you know teach or kids something and do some wonderful things in the community."

The community gave back to Lumpia World by voting them the Best Food Truck in Western Washington.

"It means the world; it absolutely means the world."
