It's just another day at the office for Laurie Anderson.
"Just gonna get her while she's laying down," Anderson says, sneaking up on an unsuspecting dog with her camera.
Anderson serves as wrangler, photographer and shopkeeper at A Dog's Dream pet supply in Georgetown.
"The pictures aren't about quality. They're about personality," Anderson explains.
Every pet visitor is welcome to have their celebrity portrait taken and placed on the wall. We counted more than a thousand so far.
"Twelve years' worth," Anderson says.
From Amos to Zoe, Pumpkin and Pepper and Sgt. Pepper, everyone gets one shot. That's it.
"We've got some where dogs are barely in frame," Anderson says. "We've got tops of heads. We've got side shots."
There are pooches named Paris and London, Griffey, Griffey, and Griffey. They're serving up Manhattan, Whiskey, Cosmo, and Bud. And not all the photos are of dogs.
"We have Alvin, which is right behind the counter. He's a hairless rat," Anderson says. "We have a parrot over in the corner. We probably have about 15 cats. There's a lizard up there somewhere."
Her own little guy was the first.
"Tucker's the one that started off. He's my logo. First dog that I had as an adult."
Anderson chokes up a little as she describes him.
"He was a grumpy old man," she says. "I always said he was the Walter Matthau of dogs. He was loyal to the end."
Who would have guessed that the walls of a pet shop could serve as such a touching memorial?
"A bunch of people do come back and have quiet moments in here while they find their dog," she says.
But these walls of images are a living, growing thing, a roomful of love, a tribute to favorite furry friends.
