COVINGTON, Wash. — With over 1.4 million followers combined on her TikTok, and Instagram pages, Shelby Scott is a rising star on social media.
So, how did this Covington, Washington mom turn into an internet influencer? Well, something had to happen first.
"What happened was I got pregnant. And my body quickly changed," Scott said. "I didn't bounce back the way I thought I was going to and nor did I see anyone communicate that online that I followed. And I was frustrated. I was playing the comparison game. I was like, 'is there something wrong with me or my body?' So, I decided to just candidly share my story."
It turned out her story was one women wanted to hear. She began modeling clothes online that she bought with her own money. Once her followers grew, so did the interest of national brands.
"I get the amazing opportunity to work with brands I love like Walmart, Target, Abercrombie, Free People," said Scott. “Sometimes brands will have specific things they want you to say, but most of the time I'm just organically sharing the outfit and just talking about why I love it and why it makes me feel confident."
She has a room at her house just for the clothing she receives almost daily.
“This is where I bring in all the clothes that I share on TikTok and Instagram and I have a few different racks," Scott said.
"I post twice a day on TikTok, and I post once a day on Instagram, and I've been doing that for four years with hardly any breaks in between," said Scott. "I still shoot everything on my iPhone, I shoot on the back camera. So, once I filmed something, it could take anywhere from 6 minutes to film to 20 minutes to film. Once I'm done filming that, I'll go sit over my chair, and I just edit it from my iPhone. It's really not fancy, elaborate production, but it works!"
But Scott is more than just fashion. She wants her followers to feel beautiful on the inside as well.
"My mission is how can I make women feel the most confident in their bodies, I don't care if they're a size 0, a size 12, or a size 22. I want to make everyone feel confident and beautiful," Scott said. "For me, I really focus on body neutrality. And that's just the idea of learning to respect your body. I'm not saying you have to look hot and confident and feel your best. But you have to be able to reason with yourself and say I'm more than my body. So, when you're leaving the house, you just respect it."
Style and self-esteem - Shelby Scott is creating content that looks good on every body.
"I truly feel like the luckiest person in the world because this is like the most fun job," Scott said.
