Broadway icon Idina Menzel starts new tour in Seattle

She performs at the Paramount Theatre on July 19. #k5evening

SEATTLE — It's been nearly 8 years since singer and actor Idina Menzel has gone on tour. And no one is more excited to be back performing live than she is.

"I really love the spontaneity of touring. I love discovering songs that I've sung over and over and over for years and seeing how my life and life experience informs the way I sing those songs and what they mean to me," Menzel said.

Her upcoming, "Take Me or Leave Me" tour will feature songs from every stage of her award-winning career, including her memorable Broadway debut.

"The title, 'Take Me or Leave Me,' it's a throwback from my first role that I ever had, my first professional job, Maureen in 'Rent,' but the title now is sort of evolved into this, this idea of just kind of putting everything out there and being really vulnerable and being honest and truthful."

What makes this upcoming show so special is that Seattle is the first stop on her summer-long tour.

"Seattle has always been a great place to start a tour because the audience is really warm and supportive. And you want to start in that way and feel good about what you're doing. And so it's been a long time since I've been on the road it's going to be really great to kind of get back to seeing the fans and reconnecting with my audience,” Menzel said.

Menzel won a Tony award for her performance as Elphaba, in the Broadway smash, "Wicked." So, we had to ask: what does she think of the new movie version of "Wicked" coming out later this fall?

"It's looks incredible. I've been in touch with a lot of my friends there who had a wonderful experience making it and I'm just happy to pass the torch and see it take on its new life and to know that I was a part of its creation has been extremely gratifying for me."

Idina Menzel will be performing at the Paramount Theatre on Friday, July 19.
