SEATTLE - Track and field star Jesse Owens earned an unprecedented four gold medals at the 1936 Olympics in Nazi Germany.
But until now, no major motion picture had ever been made about his life.
The new film Race details his challenges and triumphs through college and the Olympic Games. It also shares his commitment to family, in particular his wife and children.
Owens' daughters helped consult with filmmakers to make sure the movie stayed as true to history as possible.
"It's touching," Beverly Owens said. "Sometimes it's a little emotional."
Marlene Owens Rankin agreed, saying, "It can be difficult because it makes you realize and remember that life was not easy for him."
Owens' only grandson, Stuart Rankin, now calls Seattle home with his wife, Sara, and their children, Miles and Chloe.
They flew to Chicago for the movie's premiere last week. Rankin called the film "great" and "really well done."
