Whidbey Island, Wash. — In our series "Just a Ferry Away," we find three gems on Whidbey Island.
Stallman Studios makes art that is hard to define. Is it a painting? A sculpture? An optical illusion? Or perhaps all of the above. Stephen Stum and Jason Hallman together are Stallman Studios. They paint, cut and form canvas into free-flowing, water-like works encased in 3-inch deep shadow boxes. You can see Stum and Hallman's work by appointment. They call it "Canvas on Edge." For the next stop, we took a walk in the woods and found a tree hugger's dream! A treehouse bed and breakfast that hovers 15 feet off the forest floor. Seattleites Corey and Sarah checked into the Treehouse and found themselves immediately wanting to hug the tree.
"We still feel like we're forest bathing and we're in the trees. We can hug the tree when we want to, she's our friend," said Sarah MacAaron.
The treehouse itself was rescued from Woodinville and relocated into a 150-year-old cedar.
